A few years ago I started collecting 'classic' amps. With a move in my future I've decided to let most of these go.
I've had this one quite a while. I bought the amp as you see it here with the B-18 head sitting on the B-15 cab. The serial number on the head indicates it was made in 1966. The cab is a little newer. I can't find any numbers on it, but based on the chrome handles I believe it's one of those transitional ones from around '67. I know there are plenty of vintage Ampeg experts here on TB, so any additional information is welcome.
The head is in very good physical condition. I've only lightly dusted it. I haven't tried cleaning the chrome as I wasn't sure what would be safe. It is missing the original speaker cable, so you need to use the speaker extension jack.
This amp isn't especially loud and seems to break up fairly early on so it will need some attention. Both channels work and sound the same. Tone controls work as well. Some of the tubes don't look original, so I'm not sure if that could be part of the problem. It could also be something with what was done when the speaker cable was removed. I will pull the bottom cover off for some more photos. Besides some of the tubes and the plexiglass Ampeg logo (a repro) the head appears to be all original.
The cabinet still has the original speaker jack and wire (disconnected) but the previous owner installed a 1/4' jack on the opposite side. I assume this was done when they put in the new speaker. Note that there is no mounting hardware on the top lid. All four latches are in place and work fine though. Cab has a matching dolly which appears to be original. The end of the mounting screw to attach it to the cab was broken at some point, so it is not long enough to make the connection.
Due to it's age, I would greatly prefer a local pickup, but will consider shipping at the buyer's expense. PayPal is preferred, but I can make other arrangements if necessary. I will only ship to a US address.
