Hi,

Unfortunately I have damaged quite badly both Rift lenses with scratches, which make vision through the Rift blurry and increase the godrays effect. Eventhough I care a lot about my Rift, it was accidentally damaged by a third person; obviously I'm the one responsible of 'misuse' and warranty should not apply.

I'm posting today because I could not find enough information in order to recap my possibilities. I don't have the budget right now, but still I'm already trying to consider various solutions:

1. Buy a new Rift: Won't I lose my games & my touch controllers as they're linked to my rift? Probably the most expensive solution...

2. Send it to Oculus for repairs: From what I already saw I don't think they will fix it, even if I paid, as I misused the Rift.

3. Buy a pre-owned broken CV1 and change the lenses: seems quite difficult as I have no engineering knowledge at all and no clue on how to proceed, but, after-all... why not...?

4. Wait for some news regarding Oculus after sales service policy (some spare parts are now available)

Is there any extra solution I did not think of? I will ofc contact Oculus support about this, but based on what I've read on this sub, I'm not expecting anything from that side.

When you're choosing a compression type in WinRAR, 'RAR' uses v2.9 (sometimes referred to as v4) of the algotrithm, where selecting 'RAR5' uses v5. Both are detailed in the wiki article, which others have already linked to.

RAR5 supports some additional encryption features, but you're asking which one is better for compression - from the wiki, it looks like RAR5 might by trivially better for compression speed and smaller in some very specific cases, but the advantages appear to be all on the side of the viewer/decompressor:

• Improved damaged archive recovery
• Improved file table (meaning quicker browsing of an archive)
• Multicore decompression support

In exchange, you're taking the chance that the end user won't have a program that supports the new format, and won't be able to decompress your archive. However, if you're keeping the archive for yourself or you're sending it to somebody that you know has a program that can view it, it looks like RAR5 is the better format.

There isn't a difference.

Rar5 can optionally create a 'quick open record', a special archive block at the end of the file that contains the names of files included, allowing archives to be opened faster.
• Removes specialized text, multimedia, and Itanium executables compression algorithms; consequently some files of these types compress better with WinRAR 4.x (Rar4) than WinRAR 5.x (Rar5).
